Area Police
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
